Whew, it's been a while since I did a closeup like this. Those little veins and bumps on the neck really kill me. 
I was trying so hard to get all the details just right that I think it ended up looking a little too detailed, you know? Meh. :/

It's beautiful! No such thing as too much detail but it does seem to lack something, like maybe more depth like the shadows need to be deeper. The horse in the ref is wet and that's why he's so detailed looking but the drawing doesn't depict it's wetness so it's like the detail isn't believable? If that makes since. Mostly I would have just added more contrast between the lights and the darks but like I said, your detail is aaaallways worth it!
